AlexanderV1:

What is the BEST way to combine the information in the two clauses below? Carson's dad opened a new store. After his first store was so successful.

Mercury:

answer choices: A. Carson's dad opened a new store; after his first store was so successful. B. Carson's dad opened a new store after his first store was so successful. C. Carson's dad opened a new store yet after his first store was so successful. D. Carson's dad opened a new store, and after his first store was so successful.

Mercury:

The two sentences suggest some sort of before-and-after relationship (the first store was successful. after that, his dad opened a new store.) Using process of elimination: A) you cannot use a semicolon to connect an independent + dependent clause C) "yet" implies some sort of contrast or contradiction, which isn't present in the original sentences D) this sentence makes it seem like the first store was successful *after* Carson's dad opened a new store. this fundamentally changes the meaning of the sentences, so it's not this one either. Therefore, B is the only one that clearly and effectively demonstrates the relationship between the two original sentences.
