i can give you an example of my paper One reason mandatory voting would not work is that it would force many uneducated people to vote. The United States Election Project that was headed by George Mason University examined voter turnout by education level. They found that people that are higher in age or education are more likely to vote (Doc B). This shows that historically people with more education or an advanced age have a higher probability of voting, meaning that if the United States (US) started mandatory voting, many uneducated people, or younger people, would be forced to vote. These segments of the population may tend to make poor choices, and this could adversely affect any future election because it is dangerous to allow ignorant people to make important decisions. Randy Cohen wrote in a New York Times article that he was against mandatory voting and cited it as dangerous, when he stated, “You might as well urge the unpracticed to use power tools or Rollerblades. Simultaneously” (Doc G). What he meant by this was that is not responsible to encourage people to “just vote” for the sake of voting. Voting is a sacred civic duty and making the uneducated vote would make a dangerous climate not just for the voters, but for the whole country.
