so than i ve understood it right this mean that a dotted note 1/(1/2) the duration of the original note

almost, but it's not 1/(1/2), it's \[1\frac{ 1 }{ 2 }\]

so for an eigth note, you just need to multiply (1/8) * (1 and 1/2)
