26vigil:

MiraAngel:

Is there a question for this post?

26vigil:

about to be sorry

MiraAngel:

It's okay. I was just wondering :)

26vigil:

Brian, Steve, and Rita invested a total of $24,000 in a business. Each person invested the same amount. Unfortunately, in the first quarter they suffered a loss of $4,500, which they shared equally. By what amount has each individual investment changed due to the loss? A. -$8,000 B. -$3,500 C. -$1,500 D. +$1,500

26vigil:

can you help me plz

MiraAngel:

First you would take the total amount, 24,000, divided by three because there are three people and they are splitting the total equally.... What would that be...

26vigil:

ok

MiraAngel:

That's just the first part... Do you know the answer to it? Then I can help you with the second part.

26vigil:

8000

MiraAngel:

Great! Now since all of them loss the same amount, 4,500, equally you would subtract 8000 (each single person's amount) and subtract 4,500 from it. so 8000-4500. What is the answer to that?

26vigil:

3500

MiraAngel:

Yes. I believe that is right. @jhonyy9 May you check my work and make sure I'm right?

26vigil:

ok

26vigil:

there is one but it is -3500

MiraAngel:

Yeah. I'm kinda confused about the negative part so I tagged jhonyy9 to this so he could check it.

26vigil:

ok

MiraAngel:

@Aqual If you're on, could you check this?

MiraAngel:

lol I'm just going to tag the math people and see if any of them will be able to check it out. Let's see who gets here first. lol

26vigil:

ok

jhonyy9:

not is bc. the question is : By what amount has each individual investment changed due to the loss? not total investment changed - the question is by what amount has EACH INDIVIDUAL investment changed ok ? so in this case what will be the right answer ?

jhonyy9:

@MiraAngel do you understand it now ?

MiraAngel:

Would you take the total and subtract the loss. Then divide it by three for the individuals?

MiraAngel:

Nope. I'm lost...

jhonyy9:

i think no bc. the total loss are 4500 - yes ? so how much will be the individual loss when you know there are 3 investor

jhonyy9:

3 investor loss 4500 1 investor loss x x = ?

MiraAngel:

1500

jhonyy9:

perfectly

MiraAngel:

Okay. I get it. Thank you!

MiraAngel:

@26vigil

jhonyy9:

was hard ?

MiraAngel:

I was just overthinking it when I shouldn't have been. You helped a lot. lol Thank you

jhonyy9:

just you need be with more attention on details

MiraAngel:

yes. very true

jhonyy9:

ok HND was my pleasure and anytime bye bye

MiraAngel:

bye!
