A dancer took forward and backward steps of equal length during a dance. After taking 16 steps total, she was back at her starting position. How many steps did the dancer take in the forward and backward directions?

Since it's forwards and backwards that would be divide the total by two because there's forwards (one) and backwards (two)... same distances. So you would take the total divided by two to find the single movement directions forwards or backwards..... 16/2=.....
