woahsummer:

Jessica used Fraction 2 over 3 yard of fabric to make a scarf. Can she make 2 of these scarves with Fraction 1 and 3 over 4 yards of fabric, and why?

Mercury:

she has (2/3) yards of fabric and she has to make two scarves that are each (1 and 3/4) yards first, multiply 1 and 3/4 by 2. there's two ways you could do this 1. convert 1 and 3/4 to an improper fraction, then multiply by 2 or 2. re-write (1 and 3/4) as (1 + 3/4) and use the distributive property 2(1 + 3/4) however you do this, after you're done, compare your result to 2/3 to see which fraction is bigger
