old question but will respond to help out future users:

letting c = cary's current age
d = dan's current age

"Cary is 9 years older than Dan" ---> c = d + 9
"in 7 years, the sum of their ages will equal 93"
in 7 years, Cary will be c + 7 years old; Dan will be d + 7 years old
since in 7 years, their sum of ages will be 93 ---> (c + 7) + (d + 7) = 93, solve for c and d
