Basically the vertical line test is used to determine whether or not something is a function. You take a vertical line and run it through a function. The line can only touch the function at one point for it to be called a function. An example of something that is not a function is the square root of x |dw:1604597922155:dw| now the vertical line touches more than once, so this is not a function.
