1. Judy took $30 with her to spend on popcorn and drinks for herself and her friends at the movie theater. The price for each bag of popcorn was $5. The price of each drink was half the price of a bag of popcorn. (a) Sketch the graph that represents the situation and label the intercepts. Use one axis to represent the number of bags of popcorn and the other axis to represent the number of drinks. (b) Explain your graph.
30$ is the total that she can spend. popcorn bags are $5, whereas drinks are half the price, or $2.50. Now we have to sketch the graph. Can you try this by yourself? You have to assign one axis for drinks and the other for popcorn bags
First determine how many bags of popcorn she can buy at max (doesn't buy drinks) and also how many drinks she can buy at max (doesn't buy popcorn). You will get a graph that looks something like |dw:1604863375392:dw|
Because if she buys only popcorns, she will have 6 bags of that and zero drinks. So that is the y-intercept. Now if she only buys drinks, she can buy 12 drinks and 0 popcorn bags, (x-intercept)
Thank you! You are awesome!
