let's organize our numbers from least to greatest, since that's how a number line is normally arranged

first #: "the opposite of 4" ---> means -4

second #: – (–1fraction of one-half). ---> the negative signs cancel out, and we're left with positive 1 and 1/2. this is also equal to 1.5

third #: 2.25

fourth #: 3

since the smallest decimal is 0.25 (in 2.25) we can set each tick mark to be 0.25 (or 1/4) of a whole.

since we want to include *all* the numbers, the number line needs to go from -4 to 3

between 2 and 3 there are 4 marks so each mark represents 0.25. so therefore 2.25 is one mark to the right of 2
