Well first, you need to remember that 18% off means that he paid 82% of the price
and since you can say that 82% is 0.82 *82 x 100*, so for the product BEFORE taxes he paid 0.82y
And he also had to pay taxes,which is 8% or,it other words, he paid 108% for the game. Since 108% is 1.08 *108 X 100*,so for the game he paid
(0.82*1.08) = y
