First- Class Furniture pays its salespeople $500 per week, plus a 4% commission on sales. Famous Furniture pays its salespeople $400 per week, plus a 6% commission on sales. The inequality 400 + 0.06x > 500 + 0.04x can be used to find the amount in dollars of furniture that a salesperson would need to sell per week to earn more at Famous than at First-Class. How much would a salesperson need to sell per week to earn more at Famous Furniture?
Well the first step is to put it into a (x = number) format. You do this by subtracting like terms. 400 + 0.06x > 500 + 0.04x Subtract the 400 by 500, and the 0.04x by 0.06x This gives you 0.02x > 100. Now divide both sides by 0.02 to get the x by itself. Since this is a inequalities problem, whenever you divide, you switch the sign. x < 5000 The salesperson needs to sell 5000 dollars worth of items
