well they derived from the Federalist and Anti-Federalists way back when during the time of the writing of the Constitution. the parties have since evolved and changed drastically since the creation tho

once the constitution was made Alexander Hamilton ran the federalist party and a new group of people with different opinions had emerged again. This group called themselves the Democratic-Republican party (aka the Republican party) and was led primarily by Thomas Jefferson. This new party began to hold power after 1800. As people began to evolve,so did new political ideas and groups. There were many different political parties that arose. It's a lot to write so i can provide you with a link to a site that can give you all of them.

But a fun fact many people do not know: the Republicans and Democrats did not mean the same thing back then as they do today. I can provide you with another link to get a more in depth-idea of what went on.

Overall, as time went on, people had different ideas and thoughts on the way they were being controlled. This led to groups of people joining together and forming what we call political parties. We still see this today just not as large scale. It's referred to as "third parties"
