baylorutley:

As time passes Papa's behavior becomes increasingly erratic. To which of the following factors does Jeanne attribute this? A. Mama's emotional distance from her husband B. Papa has no business venture to be responsible for C. Papa's reliance on alcohol to get him though the day D. Papa's interrogation ordeal in Lincoln, South Dakota

supie:

We have to know what erratic means, `erratic` means differently, or un-normal.

supie:

Anyways, We can eliminate B because B says `Papa has no business venture to be responsible for`, this has nothing to do with being different. All it suggest is that he has no business venture to be responsible for which doesn't show anything about being different It would be different if he usually has a business venture to be responsible for because that would be changing the pattern or routine, and it would be un-normal or different. but saying that is nothing un-normal or different so it does not suggest anything erratic as the question asks, therefore, B can be eliminated.

supie:

Option D can be eliminated also, option D says "Papa's interrogation ordeal in Lincoln, South Dakota" First off, `interrogation` or `interrogate` means to question something. Then, ordeal is basically another word for bad, something that is not good, hurts, or a bad experience, things like that. So we're talking about Papa's behavior becoming exceedingly different, this isn't something that is exceedingly different. For example, if I was to say "I started to always hear Papa's voice coming from the basement at night." This is a different thing that is happening that is exceedingly different than most things he does. This is completely new and is `erratic`. Therefore, option D can be eliminated.

supie:

So, now we are between option A and C. (About A) So probably usually, Mama stays with her husband (I'm assuming her husband is Papa), so Papa can be doing something that is pushing her away. However, that is not the case for sure, it can be the case though, it could be something that Mama is doing and thats why she doesn't want to be around her husband. We still do not know if Papa is the husband it's just the only logical assumption. This also has nothing to do with Papa's actions, it's Mama's actions, so he isn't really being different or `erratic`, if anything Mama that is being erratic. However, there is a possibility that it's that Mama's husband (Who is possibly Papa) is the reasoning for this. So he would be doing something different that is pushing her away, and he would be doing something very different or `erratic`, but we don't know if that is the case.

supie:

Now C, Papa probably doesn't usually rely on alcohol to get through his day. This is a good example for option A. A says that Mama was distant from her husband, Papa. Him using alcohol to get through his day can be the reasoning for the actions of Mama. However, it doesn't include this information. Not sure if that matters or not. Anyways, option C says "Papa's reliance on alcohol to get him though the day" this is something that he probably doesn't do usually and is probably exceedingly different.

supie:

It's your choice, choose between C or A.
