Lane Manufacturing estimates that its weekly profit, P, in thousands of dollars, can be approximated by the formula P = -0.1x2 + 0.6x + 3 where x is the number of units produced per week, in thousands. a. How many units should the company produce per week to earn the maximum profit?

Mercury:

they give you the profit function, and ask for the maximum. so essentially we are looking for the vertex of the function easiest way would be to graph it. however, as a graphing calculator may not always be available to you, it would also be wise to learn how to calculate it manually. for the general form x = ax^2 + bx + c the x-coordinate of the vertex is (-b/2a) compare this to your equation to determine your a, b, and c values, then calculate -b/2a based on that. the solution will be your answer for part a)
