ramen:

What is the difference between the climax and the conflict in a story?

jimthompson5910:

What are your thoughts so far on this?

ramen:

So far they seem pretty similar to me, I just am having trouble telling them apart because I think that the conflict is the climax but idk.

jimthompson5910:

They are very related ideas, I agree. The conflict is basically the type of struggle between the characters, or the characters vs the environment (eg: an earthquake happens to cause death and injury). Here's a list of all types of conflict https://www.nownovel.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/6-types-of-story-conflict-768x1284.png That link says * Person vs person * Person vs nature (or environment) * Person vs self * Person vs technology * Person vs society (so it's a form of person vs person) * Person vs supernatural (eg: ghosts or haunted house maybe) The climax of a story is where the conflict reaches its peak intensity. This is where the emotions are at the highest so to speak. So if you had a story about a two characters building up a boxing match for instance, then the match itself would be the climax.
