Hello Everyone! Lately the mod team has noticed an uptick in spamming in the questions section. We define spamming as off-topic and/or unhelpful replies that do not contribute towards answering the question. People come to QuestionCove seeking homework and study help. Off-topic comments distract from people’s learning and lower the overall reputation of the site. Here are some examples: - “idk lol sorry” If you do not know how to answer a question, please refrain from answering, or simply tag somebody who might be able to help. - “I agree with /What said” If you already agree with something somebody already posted, there is no need to repeat the same thing. If you think somebody else’s response was helpful, consider clicking “best response” instead. - Side conversations on posts. Please move side conversations/off-topic comments to DM’s or chat. - Deliberately spreading comments across multiple responses. It is ok to separate major pieces of information into separate responses. It is not ok to take one sentence and split it across five responses. Spamming unfairly inflates smartscore, and makes the system unfair towards the people contributing high-quality responses. It is also very time-consuming to remove. As such, our ongoing policy is as follows: 1st Offense: Warning / Brief suspension 2nd Offense: 1 week suspension 3rd Offense: 1 month suspension 4th Offense: Longer suspension / ban Note: If you have already been warned / suspended for spam replies. The next offense will be considered your 2nd offense, and be a week suspension. As a courtesy to people who are trying to get help, please refrain from spamming or leaving otherwise low-effort responses. By making a better effort with your responses this increases the overall quality of the website and gets people the help they deserve. As an additional note, please do not reply to spam, as this makes the problem worse. Simply use the report function and the moderators will take a look at it. Thank you for your understanding. Regards, The Moderator Team
Addendum: Please read previous responses before commenting. The original poster does not need to hear the same thing 5+ times.
Second addendum: Please avoid low-effort "good job!!!" type comments. If you think somebody did a good job on a question, consider leaving a medal/testimonial instead.
To elaborate on the first bullet point: - “idk lol sorry” If you do not know how to answer a question, please refrain from answering, or simply tag somebody who might be able to help. People posting hw questions are looking for help. If you don’t understand a question, think about *why* you don’t understand it. Is it because... - you don’t know how to answer it? In that case, please research/learn how to solve it. Otherwise, let somebody else try it. - there is missing information? In that case, please ask the OP if there is any additional information, choices, or passages included with the question. You can also help out by finding the full question, if you can. In either case, try to do something more substantial than leaving “idk” “I don’t get it” comments.
Addendum: please make sure you actually have a solid grasp on how to answer the question. For example, I have seen people spam "combine like terms" on questions that clearly have no like terms. Please read the problem instead of just assuming.
