It's just the name. Like y do people call homes homes. or grass grass. I don't think there's a reason. What art stands for tho is definitely not y they call art art so I don't think there's a reason. :P

Art is not really an easy thing to pinpoint. For most people, it is a way to communicate some sort of message or emotion. However, when it comes to determining what is and isn't art, that is when it gets really difficult. Those who look at one piece, such as a perfect black circle, may see it as art because it brings something out of them. Others may look at that same piece and say it isn't art, because it is so simple and lacks creativity. It all depends on the audience. You do not determine if your art is art, it is your audience.

art (for most ppl) is something that communicates a message or emotion... whether is to make you feel sad... happy. etc. its a way for artist to express themselves and the way they feel..... but not all art has a purpose... some can just be for fun..... but just like music. music helps people come out of their shell and write songs of how they feel. music can spread positive or negative messages... same with art...... so some art has a meaning and some may not!
