Which of the following sets of data does not contain an outlier?
Outliers are numbers that don't seem to fit into a list of numbers. This number will stand out, and will either be a way smaller number than the rest, or way bigger.
The answer is list number 1
but I thought that 78 could be considered on?
Oh sorry lol. The list that does not contain an outlier is list 2.
typed the wrong number lol
List 1 is the correct answer. The 78 is an outlier.
the question is which list does not have an outlier.
Oh my bad, I should learn to read more carefully
that's ok. I had to go back an read it
I think for list 2, we could consider 1 to be an outlier since its far from the cluster {6,7,5,8,9}
if so, then all of the lists have outliers
so would it be 101, 99, 98, 111, 101, 101, 103 because they are all close ?
cause list number 3 has 111, and that is larger than 103
You may have to set up boxplots for each
thats true
answer number two has an outlier, but it is less than 5 digits way, while list number 3 has an outlier that is 8 digits away. I am pretty sure the answer is list number two. The answer might be none of them. Is this question a multiple-choice or a type question?
If it is a type question, I would put none of them, then explain why. If it is a multiple-choice, pick list number two, then if it is wrong, talk to your teacher about it and explain that all of these lists have outliers
Hope this helps :)
