So, first to make it easier to understand I like to give the people names if they don't have any already.

So lets call the friend that has y dollars, dude

And we could just call the other guy that has half as much money as dude does, Shadow.

I just like to do that to make it easier for me

So, we can plug in any number for the amount dude has, so lets just make it 10

Now Shadow, has half the amount dude does (dude has 10), which would make him have 5

So, the expression would be 10÷2, but there was no numbers actually so we would have to change it back to y÷2
