old question but will respond so this can be closed "length of a box is one more than twice its width" ---> so L = 2W + 1 "height is the sum of the length and width" ---> so H = L + W and it wants the volume. now, it doesn't say exactly how they want you to express the volume (in terms of what variables) but I have a hunch they want it in terms of W based on the information in the problem so V = LWH, plug in the appropriate quantites from above into this formula and expand as needed
