Old question, answering to close Bursitis ---> bursa/bursae (fluid-filled sacs between your bones/muscles/joints) + itis (inflammation). Putting them together: bursitis inflammation of the bursa. If you look at the activities mentioned (cycling, tennis, long-distance running) they involve repetitive motion that causes friction to the bursae, and can cause them to be inflamed. I've actually had this before, it's p. painful but treatable if you rest the affected area. References: https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/bursitis/symptoms-causes/syc-20353242
