Draw a new line passing through the external point R and crossing line PQ. Mark and label the point of intersection J. Step 2: Adjust the compass width to approximately half the distance between points J and R. Step 3: Placing the compass needle on point J, draw an arc across both lines. Mark and label the points of intersection I and K. Step 4: Without changing the compass width, move its point to R and make a similar arc. Mark and label the point of intersection H. Step 5: Move the compass needle to I, and set the compass width to the length of line PQ. Step 6: Move the compass needle to H, and make an arc intersecting the upper arc. Mark and label the point of intersection S. Step 7: Draw a line through points R and S. Line RS is parallel to line PQ.
