Introduction The story of Giant Lizards of Indonesia from R.A.Wallami, described the issue introduced by The Komodo Dragon, which attacked humans and killed several visitors in Komodo island. Sometimes, these giant lizards could actually become more aggressive than expected. However, the Nature Conservancy encouraged people to protect them from extinction although more and more attacks had been reported. The government tried to protect the villagers by building latches but the company still didn’t build one. It is critical to protect people from the attack as well as maintaining the natural balance. Supporting Main Idea In fact, the komodo dragon is dangerous, especially because they can smell far away to get prey. These lizards can kill their prey in a couple of hours by releasing the toxic substance at wound. They can swim up to 300 meters in water to get their prey at a speed of 12 miles per hour, which makes them excellent swimmers and provides them the advantage of prey underwater. Although they are relatively powerless in the ground, they shroud well so that individuals won’t discover them that easy. People are afraid of Komodos not only due to their huge size and weight, but also because their attack on humans. The main issue caused by Komodo dragons is the death of animals and people, but it is quite rare. According to the report made by the Guardian in 2007, the komodo dragons had been living in the villages of Komodo with no fatal encounters for 33 years. According to data from Komodo National Park spanning a 38-year period between 1974 and 2012, there were 24 reported attacks on humans, five of them fatal. It suggests it is important to find out the reason of lizards’ attack in order to prevent it. In fact, the nature of komodo dragons are shy and generally avoid encounters with humans. Worth mentioning, the komodo dragon has been becoming vulnerable due to illegal hunting and loss of habitat to human settlement. As was the case with most large, spectacular animals the world over, Komodo dragons were sought as trophies by big-game hunters. They are also killed for skins and feet to make novelties. The Komodo dragon can be dangerous, but over hunting of komodo dragons could destroy the natural balance, because these komodo dragons are dominant carnivores in the ecosystem. It is critical to protect komodo dragons from extinction, but also prevent their attacks on humans. One of the solutions is to provide the relevant education in the community to avoid the unnecessary contact with the komodo dragons or to avoid any activities that could potentially anger the komodo dragons. Secondly, protect their habitat. Komodo dragons only existed in 5 islands which had dry, open grassland, savanna, and tropical forest at low elevations. Protecting their habit is to prevent their contact with humans, and also helps to preserve these precious species. The last and also the most important thing is the interference from the government to build the related policies or laws to stop the illegal hunting. With all above proposed suggestions, it is highly possible to create an environment for both humans and the komodo dragons.
