How is this Which type of soil will hold the most water? The problem I am trying to solve is that the school wants to know what type of soil will hold the most water. The independent variable is the variable that affects the dependent variable. The independent variable is we test the soil to see which one holds the most water. The Dependent variable is water and soil. My hypothesis is heavy clay will hold the most water. I think that because clay holds a lot of water, and I think heavy clay will hold the most amount of water. In the lab I tested every type of soil. How did I test the soil? For example I grabbed a sample of sand, and poured the water into the soil, and I saw how much water was held in the soil. The range of my data is the soil that holds the least amount of water is sand and the amount of water held is 26 ML, and the soil that holds the most water is heavy clay and the measured water held is 58 ML. My hypothesis was correct about saying heavy clay would hold the most amount of water. The data to backup my answer is heavy clay held 58 ML of water and that is out of 100 ML of soil. My suggestion for the school is to have heavy clay as your soil to have water not past through the garbage into the soil. The reason why I say that is because heavy clay holds the most water out of every other type of soil.
