we can see people working for "free" when we look at indentured servants. they are not being given any money, rather a trip to america.
it's not considered working for free bc they did not ask to work.

anyways, to answer your question Coco, ending slavery economically helped the country. Since there were advancements in technology, there was no longer a need for there to be slaves to tend to the fields. As there were more advancements in technology, we were able to produce faster, generating more income. Also, since there were no more slaves, there were more free persons who were able to enter the labor force, which then helped the economy in return
