To solve for x, you have to isolate the variable
5x+8 = -2 5x +8 -8 = -2 - 8 5x = -10
can you solve for x from here?
there
8+5x=-2 simplify the 2 sides of the equation 5x+8=-2 subtract 8 from both sides 5x+8-8=-2-8 5x=-10 Then divide both sides by 5 and the answer is....
-2 I think

good job!
And this
d/4-9=3
you can post it on another question

d/4ā9=ā3 d/4ā9=ā3 1/4d+ā9=ā3 1/4dā9=ā3 Add 9 to both sides. 1/4dā9+9=ā3+9 1/4d=6 Multiply both sides by 4. 4*(1/4d)=(4)*(6) d=24
