But, colons can be used when you're listing something, sometimes,  you can use it instead or saying "like" or "such as," for example, if I said, `At the party there are lots of food: Chips, soda, and  cake. `  So, this should help determine on which answer choice is correct.

Anyways, what a colon does is isolates two independent clauses when the second clause is describing or explaining the first one.
