"Three-fifths compromise, compromise agreement between delegates from the Northern and the Southern states at the United States Constitutional Convention (1787) that three-fifths of the slave population would be counted for determining direct taxation and representation in the House of Representatives" Source: https://www.britannica.com/topic/three-fifths-compromise This is basically stating that the 3/5 compromise was a compromise between the North and the South which stated that 3/5 of all the slaves would be counted for taxes and representation in the US House of Representatives. This was especially important for South Carolina because South Carolina hated the 3/5 compromise but had to eventually go along with it. This was important for the US as a country because all slaves would be counted as 3/5 of a person when it came to taxes and representation.
So in simpler words South Carolina hated it but eventually went with it and it was important for the US because slaves were being counted for once even if it only was for 3/5 of a person when it came to taxes and representation.
thanksssss
