How did the extinction of the buffalo affect the American Indians? It made the American Indians’ survival difficult because the buffalo was a major source of food and warmth. It led to the American Indians’ voluntary removal to reservations because they needed to find food and shelter. It forced the American Indians to become cattle ranchers in order to survive a decrease in income. It contributed to the American Indians’ economic decline because they could no longer sell buffalo meat.
