In 1826, Joseph Nicéphore Niépce, a French inventor, created the first known photograph—The View from the Window at Le Gras. This primitive image depicted the view from his upper-story workroom at his country house. The expose took at least eight hours (compared to modern photography that easily captures a photo in 1/1000th of a second) and was only visible after washing the plate with a mixture of lavender oil and white petroleum. The original plate is currently on display at the Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center in Austin, Texas. what is the purpose of this?
