In problem 1, it says that x = y is the first equation This means x and y are the same number. We can replace any copy of x with y, or vice versa The second equation is x+2y = 3 Let's replace y with x to get x+2x = 3 The x+2x simplifies to 3x meaning we now have the equation 3x = 3 If 3x = 3, then what is x?

LARENZIE:

thx
