Yes, they did rely on the rivers there for bathing and irrigation. They also used them for transportation routes which means good could be traded along the rivers. The flood of two rivers also left the area with extremely rich soil--the richest in the area. I'm sure there are sites that can go into further explanation on the ways in which they used the rivers (:
