HELP! Explain why you can’t use a special case factoring method for each of the following. 9x^2+16 and 9x^2+24x-16

celticcat:

9x^2 + 16 is prime. The GCF of the 2 terms is 1. 9x^2+24x-16 This is a quadratic expression which at first sight looks like a perfect square, which it would be if the last term was +16. This also is prime.
