This is from the book, The fault in our stars.
Resonances: "the quality in a sound of being deep, full, and reverberating." Perpetually: "in a way that never ends or changes; constantly." Embellishing: "make (something) more attractive by the addition of decorative details or features." Fetishes: "a form of sexual desire in which gratification is linked to an abnormal degree to a particular object, item of clothing, part of the body, etc."
So based on that information what would you think it'd be?
"“It’s a metaphor,” I said, dubious. Mom was just idling. “It’s a metaphor,” he said. “You choose your behaviors based on their metaphorical resonances . . .” I said." Source: https://books-library.online/files/books-library.online-12292230Vr3R6.pdf Last page on Chapter 1.
