lazytaz:

A 15m tall tree casts a shadow that is 10m long. If a lamp post casts a shadow that is 6m long, how tall is the lamp post?

hellboy:

9 right?

lazytaz:

I need a little more explanation to back that up though?

hellboy:

well if there is a shadow that is 15 m long of a tree and the tree is actually 10 m then if there is a shadow of a lampost that is 6 meters take half of 6 add it too the hight of the shadow you get 9

lazytaz:

okay thank you sm

hellboy:

yep

jhonyy9:

so just use the rule of 3 simple and write in this way 15 m tall tree casts a shadow 10 m long x m tall lamp post casts a shadow 6 m long so cross multiplie and calcule the x value x = 6*15/10 = 90/10 = 9 m hope helped easy understandably

lazytaz:

Thank you!

jhonyy9:
