Reconstruction was a policy enforced on the South after the Civil War and Abraham Lincoln's assassination. It very much hampered relations with the South and the North and still affects relationships today. Andrew Johnson (Lincoln's Vice President) wanted to follow through with the Lincoln method of reuniting the South with the North. Because of this however, he was impeached by congress.
