Is this a good paragraph? Since the domestication of dogs over 10,000 years ago, humans have developed a connection benefiting both species. According to the article “Reading Buddies,” there are three ways humans and dogs relate. They relate by comforting each other, developing confidence, and helping one another. The first way animals and humans relate is through comfort. According to page ninety-five, animals are not in any hurry which allows children to make mistakes and stumble over words. Children can take their time and practice skills without feeling rushed. Dogs are comforted by the reading. The Arizona Animal Welfare League and Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has started to read to dogs as they await adoption. Volunteers read to the dogs calming them down and making them more comfortable around people. In turn, the animals become happier, healthier animals that end up in loving homes. A second way that dogs and humans relate to each other is by building confidence in one another. Children love reading to the dogs because the dogs won’t laugh at them for making a mistake. If a child mispronounces a word, the dog does not stop him/ her and correct them, and the dog will not judge the child. In addition, animals make good listeners eliminating the feeling of anxiety in children. As a result of reading programs like this, many libraries and schools have started to use animals to build confidence in struggling readers. A struggling reader was asked how she feels the dogs help her and she replied, “I have never finished a whole book before.” The reading buddy program has not only improved her self confidence, but it has helped her grow academically. The final way that dogs and humans relate, as seen in “Reading Buddies,” is by helping each other. In paragraph two on page ninety-four, the author stated that thousands of children have improved their attitude about reading and their reading comprehension. Dogs provide a nonjudgmental ear for students to improve academically, while humans provide animals the opportunity to learn to develop behavioral skills that will improve their chances of being adopted. Animals may not be able to talk to humans, but they do relate to, and communicate with, humans in a unique way and the benefits of this human to animal relationships are remarkable.

Great Job! It has plenty of detail, yet straight to the point. You've used strong words as well.
