What is an open study for?

I think open study was another site b4 qc was invented, but it was closed down by another site which shall not be named bc it's a disgrace to everybody and everything.

Once upon a time, back in 2013, I needed help on a math problem and I was failing a high school math class.

I searched online for tutoring but didn't have any money to pay for tutoring. And I came across a website called OpenStudy that offered free homework help. Not only did I get the math help that I needed, but I also found that it had a welcoming community of people who were willing to help random strangers on the internet with their homework problems.

I got an A in that class. And helping others made me realize how cool it was to help other people. I eventually went to college to get a teaching degree and now I teach math at a middle school.

QuestionCove is the successor of OpenStudy - made in imitation of what it used to be.

I want to know the history of it, How some people found it, and Why it was so important to some users. Also, What happened, Why did they close OS?

The founder of OpenStudy Was Preetha Ram (she has a TED talk if you want to find it on youtube). Her goal was to great a free-to-use peer-to-peer tutoring website to make tutoring and homework help accessible to everyone around the world. The motto was "Make the World your Study Group!"

In order to create and operate OpenStudy, that company took out a loan with the company who funded Brainly.

Over the years, OpenStudy was unable to pay back that loan. So the funding company sold OpenStudy to Brainly to make up that loss of money.

Brainly was OpenStudy's competitor - so once they took ownership, they shut OpenStudy down.

The people who had the idea to make OpenStudy initially did not have the coding knowledge to do so. So they took out the loan to hire programmers to make the website for them.

Additionally, it costs a LOT of money to run a website. The website domain name costs money, the servers cost money.

For example, QuestionCove has not been making a profit this entire time.

QuestionCove has been able to survive through the donations of generous individuals.

QuestionCove is trying to develop more avenues of revenue such as through hosting advertisements for users who are not logged in.

If no one else donated money to QuestionCove, there will always still be one benefactor to donate the funds as long as @Ultrilliam is willing to keep QC alive.

QC has had a design update since it first launched. it could still be better imo.
The messaging system was not as good as it is now, there was no dark mode, and there have been a bunch of behind the scenes improvements... I'm sure you can find the details with a bit of digging in Ultri's post history since they post updates on what has been improved and when
