What happens when the 2nd Amendment is taken from the people? (Friendly debate)

FormulaDrift:

I always like hearing what others have to say about this. Just want some opinions from you all.

umbaba5:

ask the women, they have experience with not having rights

mxddi3:

What exactly do you mean "taken from the people" ? it's in the bill of rights it's an unalienable right. so how can it be taken from you? If it's used the proper way, they way it is meant to be used, then there will be no problem.

FormulaDrift:

The 2nd amendment states, "Shall not be infringed" Is every gun law not an infringement? If they can infringe on it, who's to say they won't all out ban guns?

FormulaDrift:

I do agree with you though.

mxddi3:

no the amendment is meant for one's safety. it's not saying we can all just have guns and walk in the street and have a party. It was intended for people to buy them for times they were in danger. America has twisted this amendment and made it into something it's not. Clearly, there needs to be limitations as to who can have guns because not everyone is responsible enough. I mean, you wanna get rid of background checks and just give guns to murderers, felons, etc? I think the limitations we have placed are valid. I also think the right isn't being taken from the people, it's just, people have made it something super crazy and we need a way to control it, and if this is how we must control it, then so be it.

FormulaDrift:

It is called a right for a reason though. There are many "felons" who earned the title undeservingly, and look at drugs. They're illegal, yet they're more available now than ever. Felons still get a hold of guns and murderers can also get guns very easily, so their restrictions are all but pointless.

FormulaDrift:

A criminal doesn't obey the law, no matter which one it is.

mxddi3:

No, they are not. While there are some bad people who have gotten their hands on guns, it has reduced the amount very much so. And this is about a gun right so uh, we're going to stay on that topic, but i see your points. Anyways, the Founders didn't say that every person should just get to have a gun bc they want to. As I said previously, it's for protection in times of distress. That is when they need them. Again, as i said, we have changed this right so much. Over they years, we have become so obsessed with our rights, but in the end, we don't even really understand them. I think the second amendment is being carried out very fairly and we are doing what we have to in order to ensure safety. But, i thank you for your opinions and sharing your viewpoints (:

FormulaDrift:

The whole point of the 2nd Amendment is to defend from a tyrannical government, whether domestic or over seas. How do we do that when we can't buy full-autos or bump stock assault rifles?

However, for the time being, it's fine. The government isn't tyrannical. If we just let people buy them, imagine how much more violence there would be. I truly do see what you are saying, and I understand that, but right now, Americans are NOT prepared for that. Especially recently, we have gotten a bit out of hand. As I said, maybe one day we will reach that point, and then, we will find a way. Also, we don't need weapons to overthrow a form of government. We need to come together and do this the same way the Founders did when they ditched the Articles of Confederation. Not everything needs to be solved with a gun, and if someone thinks that, clearly they do not need anymore power given to them under the second amendment (:
