Well the people involved in the 54th Regiment were African-Americans who volunteered and their goal was primarily just manual labor details, but then there was a skirmish with Confederate troops on July 16th, 1863 on Battery Wagner. The members became known for their bravery and fierce fighting against Confederate forces and set a president for other African-Americans to be enlisted in future wars. Does this help?
