The parent function would be f(x) = x^2 where the vertex would be (0, 0) Let's call the function we're transforming g(x). And we can move the graph left/right or up/down. To shift the graph left by h units, you would have \( g(x) = f(x+h) = (x+h)^2 \) To shift the graph right by h units, you would have \( g(x) = f(x-h) = (x-h)^2 \) To shift the graph UP by k units, you would have \( g(x) = f(x) + k = x^2 + k\) To shift the graph DOWN by k units, you would have \( g(x) = f(x) - k = x^2 - k\)
