mathanswers:

Hazel covered a box with felt. The dimensions of the box are shown in the figure below: Height, 6/ Length, 8/ width, 11/ all inches The felt costs 9¢ per square inch. She will only pay for the felt used to cover the box, even if there is waste or extra. How much money did Hazel spend on the felt?

AZ:

So we're only covering the surfaces of the box. We need to find the surface area first. Do you know the formula for surface area for a rectangular prism box?

mathanswers:

Yeah, but do you know the answer for it? @AZ

AZ:

I don't know the answer right now but I do know how to get to the answer. I'm willing to help you get to the answer as well. Can you tell me what the formula is?

JustinR:

i know the answer

mathanswers:

LxWxH? @AZ

draebrewer:

i can help

mathanswers:

ok thanks @draebrewer

JustinR:

the answer is 135

AZ:

That would be the volume. Surface area = 2(LW + LH + WH) Can you plug in L = 8 W = 11 H = 6 and tell me what you get for the surface area?

AZ:

\(\color{#0cbb34}{\text{Originally Posted by}}\) @JustinR the answer is 135 \(\color{#0cbb34}{\text{End of Quote}}\) This is wrong. I would ignore them.

mathanswers:

I already got the answer thanks for the help tho @AZ

AZ:

No problem! The last step after you get the surface area would be to multiply it by 0.09 so you can get the cost for the material you need to buy.
