(05.06)Use a net to find the surface area of the right triangular prism shown below: Three rectangles next to each other with a width of 8 feet. The first and second rectangles length are unknown, and the last is 13 feet long. There are two right triangles above and below the last rectangle. One is labeled with a base of 5 feet and a height of 12 feet. 88 square feet 232 square feet 283 square feet 300 square feet

Like in our previous question, to find the surface area we have to find the area of each side of our figure. We have two triangles with the same area We have two rectangles with the same area We have a smaller rectangle Here are the three shapes |dw:1613763370632:dw|

AZ:

Let's start with the triangle. Area of a triangle = 1/2 * height * base This is what the height is and what the base is of a triangle. |dw:1613763453213:dw| So now look at my earlier drawing. What is the height? And what is the base?

AZ:

Similarly for the rectangle Area = length * width |dw:1613763610544:dw| Find the area for the two different rectangles

AZ:

The surface area will be the area of all the shapes so Surface Area = triangle + triangle + big rectangle + big rectangle + small rectangle
