Known as the Investiture Controversy, Pope Gregory VII and Henry IV had a dispute concerning who'd gain more power of certain thing, especially over the right of who appointed church officials of the Catholic Church. Because Pope Gregory VII was the Pope, he felt as though he had more authority over the King Henry IV himself. Then on Henry IV took the papacy from the Pope which led up to the Pope taking excommunicated upon the King twice.
