Gucchi:

How does the Nixon Watergate scandal demonstrate the impact of people on the government? Nixon was impeached because he broke the law. Nixon was indicted because he refused to comply with the law. Nixon was forced to resign by the media. Nixon resigned because he lost the support of the American people.

This is D right?

@jimthompson5910 do you agree with D?

@isry

jimthompson5910:

A is false because he resigned before congress had the chance to impeach. Specifically the house drafts up the articles to be sent to the senate for the trial. He resigned before the house could draft those articles up (which was very likely) B is false because he wasn't indicted C is false since the media didn't force his hand, though they did help paint a bad image for the former president D is true despite him being popular initially. As time wore on, people saw him more as corrupted and shady even if he may not have had a role in the break in. The cover up just made things worse. So I agree with choice D.

Gucchi:

Thank you for the explanation! I get it now.

jimthompson5910:

You're welcome. I would replace "support of the people" with "support of congress" since his main worry was congress. But you could argue that by extension, it means "the people" (since ideally that's who congress represents).

Gucchi:

Yes, that is true.
