Jose’s parents are in their fifties. They grew up in ghetto neighborhoods. They say that their parents were very strict with them and that is why they turned out so well. Jose lives in a suburban area that is mostly white. Lately, he and his parents have been arguing a lot about the classes he takes, the activities he participates in, and what time he needs to be home. Jose says they will not let him do things that everyone else is allowed to do. He snaps at them, slams doors, and sometimes pretends he cannot hear them. Their response is to get stricter.

They should probably give him SOME freedom, but not full freedom. They also grew up in a different environment than they are raising him.
