daughter got this question wrong which could be the missing first term of the expression that when fully simplified, would be a binomial with a degree of 4? select 3 ------ -5xy3+9x2y 1. 0 2. 5xy3 3. 9x2y 4. 8y4 5. 4xy3 she chose 2,3,5 and was wrong.... does the 1.zero just not be considered so it would be 1,3,5 the answer?
@depression i think this is right i dont know just help me and back me up
IF its not 2,3,5 then that makes it what
answer 2 would cancel out i think
and then it wouldnt be a binomial
When fully simplified, you have a binomial with a degree of 4 That means you have two terms
\(\color{#0cbb34}{\text{Originally Posted by}}\) @parikhst and then it wouldnt be a binomial \(\color{#0cbb34}{\text{End of Quote}}\) Yes, exactly! That's why B isn't a possible answer
fantastic ! thanks so much just want to make sure i tell her the right info!
And to answer the original question in your post re: does the 1.zero just not be considered so it would be 1,3,5 the answer? That's correct!
ooh last question difference between power and degree? are those interchangeable terms
Yeah they're similar and sometimes used interchangeably but to be more accurate Degree tells us the order of the polynomial. And so you can have multiple variables and terms like x^2y^3 + 2xy. The degree tells us the highest exponent. So the first term has exponents of 2 and 3 so it has a degree of 5. Power is another word for the exponent. ex. 2 to the power of 3 is 8.
omg thanks! i needed that clarified so badly lol
Of course!
