XxAliexX:

During which phase of meiosis does crossing over occur?

Timmyspu:

Can you please provide more information.

XxAliexX:

uh yeah

XxAliexX:

like this but i need more information on prophase 1

Timmyspu:

You picked that answer why did you pick that and why didnt you pick prophase 1.

XxAliexX:

i just need morw information on prophase 1

Timmyspu:

What do you already know about prophase 1?

XxAliexX:

well I know that Crossing over is the exchange of genes between homologous chromosomes, resulting in a mixture of parental characteristics in offspring and thats pretty much it.

XxAliexX:

and that it happens in prophase 1 but my teacher is asking for more info

Timmyspu:

This is what my teacher tought me about this a while back- The chromosomes pair up so that both copies of chromosome 1 are together, both copies of chromosome 2 are together, and so on. The pairs of chromosomes may then exchange bits of DNA in a process called recombination or crossing over.

Timmyspu:

Hopefully that helps

XxAliexX:

it does thank you :)

Timmyspu:

No problem!
