Seafoam:

Quinn is flying a kite. The angle of elevation formed by the kite string and the ground is 40°, and the kite string forms a straight segment that is 100 feet long. Explain how to find the distance between the ground and the kite. Include a description of the triangle you drew to help you solve, including the variables and measurements you assigned to each side and angle. Round your answer to the nearest foot.

Seafoam:

@AZ

snowflake0531:

ooh can i do it?

Seafoam:

Your welcome to help

AZ:

All yours

snowflake0531:

okay thx lol

snowflake0531:

snowflake0531:

sooooooooooo which one do you think you'll use, (sine, cosine, tangent?)

Seafoam:

I have no idea :)

snowflake0531:

oops, i forgot to mark x lmao

AZ:

Remember you're trying to find the height |dw:1614353436818:dw|

\(\color{#0cbb34}{\text{Originally Posted by}}\) @snowflake0531 oops, i forgot to mark x lmao \(\color{#0cbb34}{\text{End of Quote}}\) ye lol

snowflake0531:

anyways lol

snowflake0531:

soooooo since i have the opposite side and the hypotenuse side, the only one that fits is sine, which is opposite over hypotenuse

Seafoam:

Ok I see

snowflake0531:

soooo, how would you set up the equation?

Seafoam:

40/100...?

snowflake0531:

ummm, no lol

Seafoam:

Darn it

Seafoam:

But 100 is the hypotenuse though

snowflake0531:

oops that was wrong supposed to be sin(theta) = opposite/hypotenuse

snowflake0531:

and since we know what the angle is, the theata, it's 40 degrees it's sin(40) and then opposite over hypotenuse the opposite side is already stated as x, and the hypotenuse is 100, as you said so rewrite the equation lol

Seafoam:

So it would just be sin(40)=x / 100?

snowflake0531:

yeppi

snowflake0531:

sooooooo and then isolating x... continue

Seafoam:

How do you isolate x?

snowflake0531:

welll... since it's x/100, you don't want that 100, multiply 100 on each side

snowflake0531:

so it would become 100sin(40)

snowflake0531:

and then put it into the calculator, and make sure it's ind egree mode, not radians

snowflake0531:

yes? maybe? no? lol

Seafoam:

So when put into the calculator it says 64.27

snowflake0531:

yeppi

snowflake0531:

and then add teh degree symbol lol

Seafoam:

It said round to the nearest foot, so 64.3?

snowflake0531:

nearest foot would be 64 feet then if it's to the nearest whatever that's not some kidn of 'th' (tenth, hundredth, thousandth), then you don't want the decimal

Seafoam:

Oh, woops

snowflake0531:

lol

Seafoam:

Ok now I need to go back and put in everything. But can you help me on another question after that?

snowflake0531:

sure lol

offbeatsoldier33333:

i have a question

snowflake0531:

ask it

offbeatsoldier33333:

can i get back in my account after it been suspended

snowflake0531:

idk lol, i've been warned, but never suspended

offbeatsoldier33333:

oh ok

offbeatsoldier33333:

ive been suspended 4 times

snowflake0531:

ooooofffffffffff lolllll

offbeatsoldier33333:

lol
